Be Your Own Cheerleader!

As a writer, we must set aside time to write. While everyone else is enjoying leisure activities or doing chores, we squeeze in a few words here and a few words there... Or do we?

It can be so tempting to do disappear in other activities - or even clean the entire house to avoid writing! One way to accomplish your writing goals when the world seems bent on stealing your time is to be your own cheerleader and reward yourself when you accomplish your daily (or weekly) goal. Often aspiring writers will have no one else to cheer them on, so we must find ways to motivate ourselves.

How do you motivate yourself to write?

  1. The muses make me do it. =D

It sounds simple when I say it like that, but really...there comes a time when I just have so many words in me, I can't wait to write them down.

Editing...now that's a slightly different matter. That I have to do in small increments, because it's frustrating me a little bit. But, I keep reminding myself that it brings me one step closer to being able to write for a living, every time I sit down to do it.

    Great post! =)

  2. Sometimes my muses make me do it, but I find I have so many distractions that I am easily distracted by other things. I'm still trying to figure out good motivators for myself...to keep myself from getting distracted. The blog you just posted about "just doing it" really is so true. That's how I've done NaNo...I have to stop overthinking and just DO. It works. Now I just need to get back to that...

  3. DH is so supportive of me, he leaves me alone and feeds me daily. I am finding it hard to focus at the moment, but am fighting urges to walk away. When I do manage to follow my schedule, I write down 1*, when I get 10, I buy myself a little treat. It is working so well, I have earned 2 treats this month, so have ordered a couple of resource books. Fire in The Fiction and one of Stephen King's.
The treats mean more and my editing is getting done.
